Location: Sombrero Lighthouse Reef in Marathon
LAT/LONG 24.625865, -81.110705

Description: The Sombrero Reef extends from the base of the Sombrero Key Lighthouse. This protected reef area is one of the most spectacular in the Keys. The shallow depths of this reef allow for an easy snorkel.

Notes For this Snorkel: This was far from the best time to be out in the water as there were 4 foot seas and Moon Jellyfish by the thousands.  We used Spirit Snorkeling to get out to the reef. The crew of Spirt Snorkeling were great and we look forward to using their services again on a day with calmer seas with no jellyfish.

Parking: Parking is free and there was a place for us to park our kayak trailer.

Snorkeling Charter Cost: It is $30 per person with or without your own gear. They have a $2 off coupon on their website.

Amenities: Fresh water showers and the crew has snacks and food at an additional cost.

Critters: Huge thick schools of fish, stingrays, large barracuda, nurse sharks, gorgonian coral, brain coral, finger and lettuce corals, lobster, sea fans, sea urchins, sponges and critters in just about ever nook and cranny.
